Tim Allen

Tim has spent a fair bit of time at the studio recently working on a large series of new monotypes. Tim had not had much previous experience with monoprinting and these are just a few examples from the large series he has produced – very painterly and built over a number of print sessions to create varied, complex and richly coloured unique works on paper.

By using successive layers of heavy ink films, he scratched and drew into each with a range of implements, creating a richly dynamic language that explores many different colour possibilities. It’s an exciting process because it often generates surprising results that seed new prints, and the process becomes ongoing, generating new starting points for prints and as many questions as answers within this explorative visual language.
