Cathie Pilkington RA
I regularly make printed editions with Cathie, and we both like to explore different approaches that combine visual languages.
This suite of prints combines her love of drawing on lithographic stones with hand-drawn elements that are evolved as digitally printed colour underlays. We are both drawn to the duality of “old school” analogue lithography and the controlled versatility of digital print.
Creating the key line imagery on the stone enables Cathie to explore her love of drawing and mark making that stone lithography offers, adding and removing artwork and reproofing to satisfactorily arrive at the finished print.
The visible outline of the actual stone shape defines the image area of each print and is a formal consideration we used again in her recent ‘Elephant in the Womb’ print series.
